Dear friends,
I am writing to you in my capacity as President of the “Friends of Palazzo Collicola” Association, established in Spoleto at the end of February 2020, shortly before the halting of all cultural and exhibition activities, due to the national spread of the Corona virus infection.
Despite operational difficulties, our Association has kept contacts alive with the Director of Palazzo Collicola, Dr. Marco Tonelli, with the Municipal Administration of Spoleto, owner of the building and the museum, and with some of the main cultural institutions of the Region; and is undertaking the creation of a series of “Art Pills” – available on the Association’s website – on individual works of ancient and modern art preserved in the Palazzo Collicola collection, still too little known.
Pending an easing of the pandemic that will allow the Palazzo Collicola Museum to reopen and present a range of initiatives (partly already defined and in an advanced state of implementation), I have been entrusted with the task of “promoting / calling” people to whom we are closest, to involve them in the activities of the “Friends of Palazzo Collicola”, inviting them to join the Association with an annual fee that is little more than symbolic, in order to help the activities of the Museum, which today risks being radically compromised also due to ordinary and extraordinary maintenance work, given the absolute scarcity of funds allocated to this by the Public Administration.
Yet, despite the lockdown restrictions, Palazzo Collicola has not remained inert, but has held online conferences, set up exhibitions and conferences. By soliciting the Cassa di Risparmio di Spoleto Foundation, we have contributed to the purchase by auction of a work by Carlo Lorenzetti to be exhibited at the Museum – the Study for the Spoleto Sculpture, a model of the monumental version that was exhibited in Spoleto in the historic exhibition Sculptures in the City of 1962.
As understandable, friends who intend taking part in our Association will be able to benefit from small privileges that we had proposed to reserve for members only at the end of the lockdown restrictions. However, in the meantime, there is a need for immediate support of the Museum for the planned activities that can be implemented in 2021.
This is the reason for this “call to arms”: we are promoting a special registration campaign with the payment of a fee of € 60.00 (sixty) for the current year 2021, addressed to all those who care about the Palazzo Collicola Museum and the support that our independent Association intends to provide.
